Reproduction consulting & treatments.

Zvaka-naka Wild Vets offers a variety of pro-reproductive solutions, including:

  • Pregnancy diagnosis.
  • Reproductive soundness evaluations & fertility testing.
  • Oestrus synchronization.
  • Problem solving poor reproductive performance in a herd.
  • DNA typing of individuals within a population helps to prevent inbreeding, assists with selection of animals to be introduced and helps identify lineages with genetic deficiencies.

ZWVs also provides contraceptive solutions for species that may outbreed resource capacity. Contraception, when rationally applied in the correct management set-up, is a very useful management tool serving as a viable alternative to culling or translocation.

  • Elephant contraception (both reversible chemical & permanent techniques).
  • Carnivore contraception

We can also provide hormone treatments for problematic “in-musth” elephant bulls. Some elephant bulls- particularly young adults may display prolonged musth or inappropriate aggression especially on smaller conservation areas and on reserves lacking the authoritative presence of mature bulls.
